Oat bars are great energy suppliers. I like to eat them as a snack or before a workout when I am hungry. Several producers such as Oatsnack or Oat King (Vegan) offer delicious tastes but those bars also contain palm oil and sometimes lots of sugar.
Furthermore do you have to spend at least 2,50 € for a bar! I made my own oat bars with only a few ingredients. You can add nuts, goji berries, cranberries, seeds or whatever comes to your mind to this basic recipe.
I used porridge for my bars, because it’s super thin and therefore perfect for our bars! The recipe is so easy and it won’t take you longer than 5 minutes to prepare the oat mix. I didn’t add a lot of sugar because my porridge was already sweetened and the banana also contained sugar, but I recommend trying the “dough” before you bake it and if required, add more of your sweetener!
INGREDIENTS FOR 6 BIG BARS:
- 250 g chocolate porridge
- 3 Tbs. coconut oil, melted
- 1 Banana, squashed
- 2 Tbs. sweetener of your choice (coconut sugar, honey, maple syrup, stevia, sugar etc.)
- a pinch of salt
Preheat oven to 160° C.
In a bowl mix all ingredients. Prepare a bread tin or baking sheet with parchment paper. Spread the oat mix and press down with your fingers or the bottom of a glass.
Bake for 15-17 minutes. Let cool and cut into squares.
